WebWorks Intl' Frequently Asked Questions : Marketing

What good does a impressive Web Site do, when no-one is able to find you on the Internet? In October 2003 alone, 1.5 million domain names were registered. Search engine giant Google has references to over 4.2 billion Web pages. It is easy to understand that with this amount of information out there it becomes increasingly important to market your Site to its audience.

Marketing Tips

  • Know your audience! A lot of Sites try to appeal to and attract everyone. They might get a lot of hits, but what good does it do when those visitors click away from your Site the moment they arrive because your Site does not provide what they are looking for. This is especially true when you pay for advertisement or click-through.

  • Keep track of your marketing expenditure and its effectiveness. With other words keep a list of where and how much you spent on marketing and what revenue it created. On the internet you can do this by asking your host to keep a detailed traffic log or invest in a monthly traffic report subscription.

  • Optimize your Site for Robots, Crawlers and Spiders by carefully selecting site setup, title, keywords, meta tags , page content and image 'alt' attributes. Unfortunately each Search Engine Site uses a different rating scale, so you might be better off to concentrate on just one, or invest in creating a seperate entry page for each of them.

  • If your Site does not focus on just one topic, create a different entry page for each topic and submit that page to the Search Engines as well.

  • Do not over submit your Site to the Search Engines. Most of them have very strict rules on how often you are allowed to submit your Site. If you over submit your Site you will be branded as a spammer and you will never be able to submit your Site again.

  • Figure out the search words that people would use to find a Site as yourself, use words that best describes the information on your Site. Try to stay away from generic words.

  • Form alliances with businesses that enhance your product and have them put a link to your Site on their site (on a page that has been / will be indexed/submitted to the Search Engine).

  • Put your domain name on your business card, letters, faxes, emails, etc...
